In our last post we were pleasantly surprised by the Crew Cuts' cover of Susie-Q. This cover of The Beatles' Rocky Raccoon by Lena Horne, however, is just about what you'd expect.

You're probably already familiar with the 1968 Creedance Clearwater cover of Susie-Q. You may even be familiar with Dale Hawkins' superior original. This version by the Crew-Cuts however, really caught me by surprise.

Stan Freberg's Heartbreak Hotel

Yes Virginia, Jukeboxmafia is still alive. 2010 has been a busy and event filled year, which has left me little time or energy to post as often as I would like. Some viewers had requested an improvement in sound file quality, which I as of yet have not been able to deliver. I've decided however that low quality files are better than none at all, so I will continue to post as usual until the issue is resolved (if ever). With that in mind we return to the blogosphere with this hilarious version of Heartbreak Hotel by the great Stan Freberg.

Sleeping in the Ground

Here's another disc from the Ponderosa Stomp record show. I wasn't looking for this one or even thinking about it, but this is a disc I have had an eye out for, for about 10 years.

p.s. Tech Note: I'm a record guy, not a computer guy. I've had a couple of requests from viewers asking me to post the songs at a higher bit rate. I've been recording them at a better quality not realizing that no matter what, when I post them to Hipcast they are automatically reset to 64 kbps. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Ponderosa Stomp 2010 was a blast and now as promised, I have a few items from the record show. First up is a song I've seen on various comps over the years, but have never been able to track down on vinyl. As you can see the label is a little flood damaged. Plays just fine though. I was surprised to see that this record is not as pricey as I had imagined. Also, I've never heard part 2!

p.s. I'm trying out new postings at a higher bit rate. Let me know what you think.
