Jett Powers
Go, Girl, Go
Design - 811
1958
I found this record at my Grandmother's house, in a box of singles that belonged to my uncle when he was a teenager. Go, Girl, Go is a rockabilly classic, produced by Bumps Blackwell and contains some of the wildest guitar you will ever hear on a fifties era recording. Jett Powers a.k.a P.J. Proby, was a songwriter and later recorded an album backed by a bunch of british session musicians who subsequently gained some success when they changed their name to Led Zeppelin...

KILLER bopper! And a nice way to find it.

You always wonder what kind of people owned certain records... now you know.

Thanks Todd. I've seen it on Ebay a few times, but of course it's always nice to find things like this for free... BTW, I just added Great Shakes to my bloglist.

PJ Proby also cut another 45 as Jett Powers- Loud Perfume on Belta. He was quite a sensation in the UK with a stage act that included an onstage pants splitting routine. Proby's sister dated Elvis for a short while and he claims to have cut many demos for Elvis which Elvis copied note for note. For more on PJ's wildman days check out the Kim Fowley interview in Ugly Things magazine #19. BTW did you notice how much Go Girl Go sounds like the Cramps Weekend On Mars?

Thanks for the info and yes, I definitely think Cramps when I hear this...

P.J. Proby (AKA Jett Powers and Orville Woods) was born James Marcus Smith in Houston Texas 6th November 1938. I have only been a fan of P.J. Proby since 1977. I first heard him singing the song "Somewhere" on an old 45 record. I finally got to met him in 2004 when he toured the East Coast of Australia, he was 65 then and he put on an Absolutley Brilliant Performance. Last November he celebrated his 70th Birthday. Proby still does concert tours in the UK among other other places and I'm sure he'd really love to do some touring in the US as well.He definatley did do some of the movie demo's for Elvis Presley. You can even listen to him singing the demo for "Fun In Accupulco" on YouTube. Check out his website if you'd like to make a booking for P.J. Proby go to the Official Site of the Legendary P.J.
