Many thanks to my good friend Jason Crow for designing the new Jukeboxmafia Logo! What do Y'all think? Q: If a T-shirt or a sticker existed with this design would you want one? p.s. He also designed our current banner...
O.V. Wright Monkey Dog Back Beat - 548 1965 - '66?
MP3 File Here's one of my favorite tunes by O.V. Wright. It's taken me a while to come across a clean copy of this one, although it's not particularly rare or pricey. Love it!!
MP3 File I know Ray Sharpe primarily as a rockabilly artist. His hit "linda Lu" from 59 gives no indication of the sounds that would come along later in his career. Here he is in 1966 on Atco throwing down one very heavy soul groove... *pts 1&2 have been blended into one track for this post.
Archie Bleyer The Rockin' Ghost Cadence - 1293 1956
MP3 File This is my second favorite Halloween record of all time (Frankenstein Walk by Gene "Bowlegs" Miller being the first) and embarrassingly has already appeared on this blog numerous times. But! It's just too good not to share again. Dig it and Happy Halloween!
p.s. To hear the Frankenstein Walk just click the Halloween tag below and scroll down a bit...
The Tony Hatch Orchestra Ghost Squad London International - 10505 1962
MP3 File This tune lies a bit far toward the easy listening side of the scale than we usually prefer to go here at Jukeboxmafia, but it is kind of cool and a bit spooky and has the word ghost in the title, so here you go...
Rosemary and Little Andy Lullaby from Rosemary's Baby Columbia - 44586 1968
MP3 File Here's a radio promo copy of the theme from Rosemary's Baby. I can't believe this wasn't a big hit! #1 in all markets, Rosemary and Little Andy!!
The Loch Ness Monster Thurl Ravenscroft Disneyland - 789 1959-1960
MP3 File Here's an ultra cheapie kids disc (with a monster theme) from Thurl Ravenscroft that I picked up the other day. What? You've never heard of Thurl Ravenscroft? Don't worry, just click play and You'll recognize the voice immediately...
This is simply a blog where I post interesting 45s that I come across. I'm not an expert on records or music history and I'm fairly lazy, so don't expect a lot of exhaustive background or research. Comments are highly encouaged...
Most of the music files presented here come from my personal 45 collection and are posted for purposes of musical enlightenment only. These are mostly obscure songs, over 40 years old, that may not have been reissued on CD. The intention is to raise awareness of underappreciated artists/songs. If you like what you hear, seek these artists out on CD or get out there and find some of this old vinyl for yourself... If you are the copyright holder and wish any files to be removed, I will do so immediately upon request.
