1966 Plymouth Barracuda Radio Spots
I've run across a few of these little one-sided 7 inchers over the years. Usually they contain radio ads or PSAs. This one is especially entertaining. 4 different radio spots for the 1966 Plymouth Barracuda, done in a comical style that reminds me a bit of a Stan Freberg album. The voices sound familiar too. Anyone recognize them? Also, I find it odd that even though this is clearly intended for use on radio, the label reads "Not for Broadcast Use." What's the deal with that?

I asked the same question when I saw the label.
The car companies often had special LPs for dealer showrooms and the booths at car shows, but those usually had specially commissioned music tracks in between the commercials.
If this was a hand-out to potential customers, it would've had "Not For Sale" on the label and a picture sleeve with advertising.
So, I'm just as curious to find out about this one.
There are people who collect the car showroom LPs & promo records, and I'm sure they have blogs somewhere where you can leave a comment question -- Does anyone know any of these sites?
The slug just wasn't removed when they printed the label(s)... This type of oversight happened once in a while, especially when some honcho at De Soto, Chrysler or Ford approved the recording quality. Now if you ever get a transcription from BBD&O that has that caveat on it, you've got a real collectors item.
Great find. Gotta love the lingo and overwrought affect of the day.
Very cool, I've heard the hipster version before but not the rest. Would love to run across a copy.
The first one, "Hipster" was used on The Barracudas' "Summer Fun" off of 'Drop Out With the Barracudas".
Really? Cool!
It is Stan Freberg and is mentioned in his autobiography "It Only Hurts When I Laugh."
Wow, cool! Thanks for the confirmation...
About that confirmation, Selectric Ladyland... Freberg's book has no index, and at the beginning of the epilogue, it's noted that "It Only Hurts..." covers Freberg's career "up to 1963." I'm not convinced that it's Freberg's voice, and if these spots are mentioned in his book, I missed the mention on a page by page scan. A page number would set my mind at ease; otherwise, I'm not convinced.
This is not Stan Freberg. Close but no cigar. Still pretty cool though.
I never said that it was, but thanks for weighing in on the debate!
Like, crazy!
