Loosen These Pains and Let Me Go - Albert Washington
Here's Georgia born gospel/soul singer, guitarist Albert Washington on Jewel records from 1965, or is it 1971? My guide book says '71, but the 1965 copyright on the label would indicate otherwise. Sounds earlier than '71 too...

Doesn't the 1965 date refer to the copyright covering the label design?....
At least two of the three companies using the name Jewel Records had very similar logos..[i can't recall what the label on NYC Jewel records looked like]..
But still, there's a confusing detail here...[or at least confusing to me, i had to do a double-take]
Ya see, your copy is on Stan Lewis' Jewel Record label out of Shreveport....not Rusty York's Jewel Label out of Cincinnati, where i believe it was first issued as #946, and then again later as #108421 [notice the publishing credit].
I find it very odd that the two 'competing' Jewels would make a deal to 'share' release of this record, a deal which could have only served to confuse things further...
Perhaps the labels were friendlier than i know...but i can't see that other artists were shared...even though both labels served somewhat similar markets..
Numbers on both labels point to 1971 as the release date..
Washington is a fascinating artist, i can't say i've ever heard him do a bad song.,.there's a nice collection around called, Blues & Soul Man...
I recommend it..
Wow, thanks Ana, that makes sense and would explain a lot. Obviously I don't put a lot of effort into researching these things, I just like to share the 45s. Thanks for your insight...
Saw 45 for sale @ Soul-Source as on "M In The Street 1", label copy before Jewel 822 (which is '71) but no year noted. Perhaps the people selling the 45 (in UK) can give you info on the year. Can give links to sale pages if you want them, just email me. Barbara
Thanks for the detective work Barbara!
And thank you for all the good tunes. Enjoy listening to them. Sure appreciate your sharing your music with us.

Actually, the record seems to have come out first on Fraternity Records, a Cincinnati label. The deal with Shreveport Jewel was a lease deal, and I was unaware of any release on the Cincinnati Jewel label, but the latter was (and is) also a local studio, so it could have been recprded there.
I recently purchased the Master Recordings from Cincinnati's Jewel Records when it closed it's doors. Among them was Albert Washington's Master tape. The tape itself is in a box marked Albert Washington from KING RECORDS , dated 1971. Hope this helps.
thanks
Wow! Thanks for posting this HB. That's fascinating and what a cool thing to own. What do you plan to do with them?
